Instagram Post Notifications

Instagram has done it again. They are once again changing their algorithm. But this time they are taking the “insta” out of the “instagram”. Instead of having posts in your newsfeed show up chronologically, they will now show users the images that are the most popular according to their new algorithm.

You want to know why Instagram is making this change? Because they want to be able to make money. They are changing the app to be able to monetize it just like they did to Facebook. And if you didn’t know, facebook owns instagram.

I personally started using Facebook less when I started getting a bunch of notifications on my facebook feed telling me that I can “boost” my post by paying X amount of dollars to reach more people. So I started spending more of my social media time on instagram. Instagram seemed more organic to me and I liked that I could see posts according to the time they were posted.

What is the point of following accounts if you don’t get to see the newsfeed in the times they were posted? According to Instagram it is to be able to finally make some big bucks through monetizing. I guess they aren’t worried about people starting to use another app, say like Snapchat?

Snapchat is currently one of the fastest growing social media sites out there right now. Snapchat is the third most popular social media app after Instagram and Facebook among millennials. Snapchat turned Facebook down last November with a buyout offer of 3 billion dollars. With the popularity of Snapchat the business is currently being valued at $10 billion. You want to know what the next big app is? Snapchat. And what better time to start spending your time on a new app then now with Facebook and Instagram getting a little too greedy.

However, if you are the new Steve Jobs, Mark Zukerberg, Kevin Systrom, Evan Spiegel or even Tom Anderson. NOW is the time to create a new social media app! With all of the disgruntled instagram users, now is the time to capture that audience. So start developing!

So for those of you that have Instagram, be sure to turn those notifications on if you want to see your favourite instagram accounts. Unless of course you want an algorithm to choose the posts you see.
