Picketers protest McGuiney appeal

Last weeks court date made it on the front page of yesterday’s paper. (Side note: they spelled my dad’s name wrong. The correct spelling is ‘Duane Pearson’) As many of you know, my sister’s Emily Pearson and Shannon Baker and I lost our father Duane Pearson to a drunk driver last year. Not only was he a dad, but he was a son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many.

After a year of freedom, Christopher McGuiney, was arrested and charged but was released at only a $2500 bail on December 30th, 2015.

My family does not want something like this to happen to any other family. Drinking and driving is a cruel way to tear someone you love away from you. Last week Christopher McGuiney requested to the court that two of the three terms of his bail conditions be changed. (To be able to drink alcohol and to change his curfew) I am thankful and have so much gratitude that the judge denied his request. I know my dad would be so very proud of my family and friends for going to court on his behalf and it was our way to show people the damage of what drinking and driving does to a family. Drinking and driving is preventable, there is always another way.

I’m now asking that if any Fraser Lake/Vanderhoof locals (and surrounding areas) to please report Christopher Mcguiney if he breaks any of his bail conditions. Please call the police if you see him drive a vehicle, drink alcohol or if he is out past 8PM-6AM curfew. Thank you so much.

And to those of you that have been sharing your own unfortunate stories to me and my family about losing your loved ones by a drunk driver or any other avoidable death, I know it takes courage and strength to tell your tragedy by reliving it again to share. I admit that whenever I make a post about my dad, even on Instagram, tears do shed every single time.
